Free Morning Thoughts

April 11, 2013
10:31 AM

I am having a morning off, first for a long time, and am filling in the time happily and without guilt by hanging out on the social media, tweeting, facebooking and blogging. The thought strikes that without these methods of keeping in touch with both old and new friends, now scattered around the world, life would be very different out here. In fact all of the profound changes in the last years are responsible for easing us into our life out here painlessly.

Without mobile phones, emails, free landline calls, Skype (particularly for the grandsons) , Ryanair (Yes I am grateful to Maestro O Leary) and now I am realising Facebook and Twitter our lives out here could well be much more detached from our past.

So lets raise our glasses to technology.
God bless it !

Hi Martin, delighted you’re enjoying some r&r with the sun just arriving back. We even got to sit outside for a couple of lunches in our own wee place when we visited last week. May I share a new discovery with you courtesy of my French neighbour (an architect), who was very successfully battling the cold nights in his large barn. The magic word is a Zirbo heater (modern version of a paraffin heater). Expensive at 300 to 700 euros, but worth considering over the long term as they provide instant heat to de-chill the room until the Godin takes over. They are amazingly efficient at quickly heating the desired space and then they switch down to a purr to keep the temp around your target, by which time the Godin takes over.Perhaps you have come across them or have no need being that much further south, but it is my handiest discovery of this year. (We’re rarely there at the correct time to have the logs ordered in, so its perfect for our visits). Regards to Sile.
    Greg.

Sorry Martin, that should have read a ZIBRO heater. So much for my grasp of new technology!

Thanks Greg, hopefully I won’t be needing one until next November……but you never know.
