PLANS - Cookery Courses in France
Martin and Sile worked in France in 1974 and started a love affair with the country. They have been back many many times since then and have a plan to retire there - at least partially - once Sile gives up teaching in 2009. Once there he intends to satisfy his compulsive cheffing instincts by running courses on French food and wine in whever part they settle.
In the meantime they are fortunate that some old friends have done just that. John and Mona Prendergast, who for many years ran the beautiful and very successful Zetland House Hotel in Connemara have left the running of the Zetland to their son Ruaidhri and retired to a wonderful old mill near Bergerac in the Dordogne called Le Vieux Moulin.

He hopes to run occasional food courses here.
During these 5 day holidays he will give demonstrations of Classics of French Cuisine as well as cooking some lighter modern dishes which will then become the dinner of the night.
As part of the week long course we would visit a local vinyard in Monbazillac, the bustling market in Bergerac where the ingredients for the classes will be bought, as well as visits to local artisan food producers.
The primary intention of these courses is holiday, you can go on as many or few outings or classes as you wish or take the chance to relax by the Swimming Pool or walk through their extensive grounds which includes a vinyard growing grapes of two appelations; a Monbazillac and a Bergerac Red, and a wooded area where the wild deer still roam.
The mill has 3 twin rooms and one double, all with their own bathrooms and all enjoy lovely views of the grounds.
Dinner and local wine, which will be the food prepared at the class, will be provided on three days and we can reccomend some excellent local restaurants on the other two.
As Le Vieux Moulin is only 10 mts from Bergerac Airport (Ryanair daily flights from Stanstead) you don't have to worry about transport or car hire as you can be collected and delivered to the airport.
The plan is to run two of these courses in early Summer of this year. If you would be interested in booking in contact me either by phone or email at the addresses on the welcome page.
