Apple Brownie

225g (8oz.) Self Raising Flour
100g (3 oz.) Melted Butter
2 Eggs
200ml (8oz.) Milk
2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
350g (12 oz.) Dark Brown Sugar
175g (6 oz.) Chopped Dates
100g (3 oz.) Chopped Walnuts
1 kg. (2 1/4 lbs.) Cooking Apples
Have ready a shallow baking tin (I use small roasting tin, roughly the size of a swiss roll tin but deeper)
Line this with tin foil and butter lightly.

Peel and core the apples and cut into chunks.
Set the oven to 175C,350F, Gas 4.
Sift the flour into a bowl and make a well in the centre.
Pour the melted butter, milk , vanilla and eggs into this well.
Beat these together well, gradually incorporating all the flour until you have a thick batter.
Add the brown sugar and beat this into the batter.
Now fold in the dates, walnuts and the apples and scoop the mixture into the baking tin.
Put into the preheated oven.
Cook for 30 mts, test to make sure it is done in the middle. Serve warm or at room temp.
