Je Mérite le Detour.

I came upon a Michelin Guide to Ireland in the bookshop in Galeries Lafayettes in Beziers last week and idly flicked through it to see who was being featured in Waterford at the moment.
To my surprise and pleasure, the starring restaurant was my own, Dwyers, now closed for more than three years. Praise, however, even when out of date is always welcome and in this review of the restaurant the, usually very reticent, Michelin Guide was quite fulsome. I will quote it in full:
Une bonne adresse pour un repas de qualité dans un cadre chaleureux. Le chef essaie de faire une cuisine de terroire élaborée, fait suffismment rare en Irlande pour être signalé. Mérite le detour.
I will translate this as;
A good place for a meal of quality in a warm atmosphere.
The chef’s practice of developing his native dishes is rare in Ireland and should be applauded. Worth a detour.

Well, well well!
I went quite pink with pleasure as I read it.
I am particularly pleased with the “Worth a detour” bit.
I who have bought the Michelin Green Guides to France for years and have religiously visited sites which were listed as ; Mérite le detour.
It is delightful to find myself up there with places like Mont St Michel and the Musée de Louvre.
Pity is they didn’t manage to be so enthusiastic three years ago when I was still in business.That won’t however stop me from making full use of this assessment once I start to produce food in France.
