Oh Martin! Waterloo Road and us young and the whole world ahead! I saw her death on another blog. What was it about broken knees-the McGarrigles?
Booking our flights to come and see you in May.

Ahh ! It must have been about 1983.They had just done a gig in Parc Ui Caoimh in Cork and did a gig in a tiny room in the back of the Bridge Hotel in Waterford on their way to the ferry in Rosslare. I remember Kate thanking her son, who was there with her, for doing the sound for her, now we all know who that was.
I think hers was the only autograph I have ever asked for and she insisted on knowing your name and then when she got the spelling wrong she crossed it out and wrote it again!
We lived with that signed flyer on the wall for years until it went the way of all flesh.
Sue.
That was their third LP, Dancer with Bruised Knees, funnily enough I remember listening to Louden Wainwright in the Mill almost as well as listening to the sisters.

Very sad. She accompanied us on many car journeys across France. I think Swimming Song was my favourite. ‘I held my breath and I kicked my feet and I moved my arms around, moved my arms around’.

I don’t think it was Pairc Ui Caoimh…unless they played there another time. I went to see them in Connolly Hall and was backstage and took loads of great black and white ‘photos (which I will reproduce when I eventually get a scanner) and had a fantastic night with Kate and Anna and the band. I think I still have the address book where Kate wrote her contact details. Another great Canadian folk singer who is gone is John Rankin of the Rankin family whose car went over a cliff on Nova Scotia. Always think of him and Dhiarmuidin Uí Shuilleabháin driving the roads around Dingle.
