This just arrived to me from Spain where lifelong buddy Michael scours the airwaves daily for suitable pieces for the blog.
Here’s a nice Lost in Translation for you.
Adidas, as the main sponsor, got to decorate the open-topped bus for the
return of the victorious Spanish football team, and to supply all of the
commemorative shirts and the backdrop to the stage for the big homecoming
concert in Madrid.
The victory was Sunday, and the team came home yesterday. So, with time of
the essence, Adidas chose the very inspiring but equally quizzical slogan
“Impossible is Nothing”.
Un saludo,

on July 14, 2010I thought this was Lost in Translation too, until I showed it to my 16 yr old son, who informed me that it has been an Adidas slogan for years! Alas Martin and Michael, this is evidence of our encroaching dotage (or immunity to advertising if you want to look on the bright side.)

on July 14, 2010Wow Betty I’m impressed, particularly with the Fig Jam explanation (see last entry), suddenly Australian humour acquires a new level of subtilty- but the Adidas slogan… I don’t know, it seems to me someone got it horribly wrong years ago and they have been compounding the mistake rather than admit this.
