Last month in Bayonne we went to the excellent Basque museum. As we went to pay our entrance charge I suggested,- light-heartedly- to the ticket man that they might have a ” Tarif Special pour les ancients ” ? He laughed, charged me full whack but then when I reached across to take a copy of the guide in English he stopped me and said “Nono c’est en Anglais ” and handed me the one in French.
He must have wondered why I smirked.
