Gateau de Noel

Last night Madame and I made The Christmas Cake, we had a notion to make a high one this year so we got adventurous and took the handles off our small stockpot (see background of shot) and, having lined it with several thicknesses of bakewell, made it in this. It took way longer to cook to the centre (don’t forget switch off the fan in the oven) but looks kinda classy.

We got some interesting new fruits for it yesterday in the market in Pezenas, sugared kumquats and crystalised pineapple, I am certain it won’t last uncut until 25th!
