We were in Sete last night, outside the madly impressive, open air, Theatre de la Mer hoping to attend a concert with Thomas Fersen, one of my all time favourite French Chanteurs, when this fellow landed on a tree next to us and gave an inpromptu concert for sufficiently long a time for me to get my camera out of my pocket and grab a shaky shot.
He is a Goldfinch, native here but just a summer visitor to Ireland. in French he is the Chardonneret or Thistle eater.
It was just as well he sang to us because that , was as much singing as we got.
The concert was cancelled as the position of the stage meant the M. Fersen was going to be a little too likely to be struck my lightning in a storm which was apparently due.
So we drove home.
